BERLIN - The number of reported anti-Semitic and neo-Nazi crimes in Germany rose last year, the interior ministry said on Monday in a statement.

There were 1,346 reported anti-Semitic crimes in Germany in 2004, up from 1,226 in 2003, said the ministry.

Racist crimes rose to 2,553 last year, compared with 2,431 in 2003.

Violent neo-Nazi crime was up slightly to 776 reported cases in 2004, with 759 cases in 2003.

There were 12,051 general rightist crimes reported in 2004, up from 10,792 in 2003, said the statement. These include propaganda offences, such as the display of banned Nazi symbols and giving the stiff-armed Nazi salute which is prohibited under German law.
