04/07/2009Egyptian woman killed in German court drama

The 32-year-old woman was killed in a court in Dresden before she could testify against her attacker.

Cairo -- A woman stabbed to death in a German court was an Egyptian who had sued her attacker after he insulted her for wearing the Islamic headscarf, Egyptian newspapers reported on Friday.

Marwa al-Sherbini, 32, who was killed in a court in Dresden on Wednesday, was the wife of Egyptian academic Elwi Ali Okaz who was also hurt in the incident and is now in critical condition in hospital, the state-owned Al-Akhbar reported.

The attacker stabbed Sherbini "shortly before she was to give evidence in an appeal lodged by the man against a conviction for insulting her over wearing the hijab," said the state-owned Egyptian Gazette.

The 28-year-old man, identified only as Axel W., was overpowered and was being investigated for manslaughter over the killing of the woman, a spokesman for the Dresden prosecutor's office said.

Magdi al-Sayed, press officer at the German embassy in Cairo, said the case was isolated and did not reflect German attitude towards Muslims.

"It is a criminal act -- it has nothing to do with persecution against Muslims," Sayed told the Gazette.

Why aren't the european reporters and newspapers talking about this story in the first person? All of the reports on line are from Egyptian reporters and newspapers. This did not happen in Egypt. It happened in Germany in a German Court, in front of German police and a German judge. Why is it that NONE of the German news outlets are speaking and reporting about what happened to this poor and precious mother? It is an outrage! I live in America and AM a white muslim american. It is so obvious that the Whte chrisitian and jewish societies only report anti muslim stories... they will never run stories like this. What kind of world are we living in? God bless you Marwa! May Allah hold you and your family in his hands.
God has something for this man who took your life and the life of your unborn child.

It is quite obvious that Dave is one of those shallow ignorant peanut-butter eaters whose only source of knowledge is Oprah Winfrey show. I'm sorry to stereotype you like this, but your post speaks for itself!

to dave
your ex president claimed that muslims did this terrible actions and after he stepped down the facts started to appear and further neutral investigations will reveal that muslims have no relations with those bloody actions
dave you have the same thinking of the murder please treat yourself

Dave doesn't need a reply. His brain is too small to engage in anything other than scratching his butt while grabbing a cold beer from the fridge.

God bless all muslim mothers, fathers and children. May we all stay strong and hold tight to the teachings of the Koran no matter what we face.

I wish to ask anyone who read this article to close his/her eyes and think what if the scenario was totally the opposite?
a christian woman with her kid in a playground in a moslem country,
she wanted a share with a moslem kid, his father who has a beard called her:- "go away with ur cross over ur chest, crusader!"
then, the police, the court, testimony,, he killed her,,,,,the "moslem" police "accidentally" shooted her husband,,,,
exactly the same scenario in the opposite way!

as in the movie "Time to Kill"; 1996
please watch that movie and try to "FEEL" how the "others" feel!!

western world are not full of angels and we- moslems- are not the daemons!

I am so amazed at this story, not a single Western Median outlet has given this a place on front page, just imagine if one Jew would have been killed for putting a hat on his head, all over the world there would have been pcitures and outrage. How there can be peace in this world of there is no Justice. I am ashamed to be a German at this instance

It is an Open Terrorism in Germany of Killing a Muslim Woman by a German. And no action has Taken by German Government or UNO against this Jewish Terrorist.
Where were the International Human Organizations at that Incident.

So It shows that the real terrorists are westren peoples Governments.

I am a Christian. More then that,I am a human! My thoughts and prayers are with this poor husband, his and his wifes families, and their friends. I learned of this story from my Egyptian,Muslim FRIEND. There is NO excuse why a weapon should show up in ANY courtroom. I hope this animal receives the highest punishment allowed by law. I am also dissapointed with the media in this country. They only tell us what THEY think is newsworthy. I understand they can't report EVERYTHING. But THIS is newsworthy. It helps us understand more about what a 'terrorist' is!

I was shocked of such inhumanumanly way this muslim martyre had to go to her rest and her baby who is not born yet and the crime seen full blood shed of the 3 victims.
Now what did this terrorrist killer gained from that and those who follow his bahaviour too?
We as the whole Muslim world and those who beleive that this is a horrible crime and should not happen and should not go without strict punishment share our condolances with the family of the martyre and express our sympathy for all of those who have been hurt from such terrible crime by this none human being.
We all have to learn a lesson that we will never allow racism to take place in our world. We should use the day of her death as a celebration of the end of racism.
I would like to ask how in the world someone goes to court room with a weapon? What is the security guard's roll in the court? Was he really there when the killer started to attack her? Why he did not interfere before her husband did and as a result he became a third victim after the wife and her Fetus? How did he miss his target twice? sorry for the family and for the muslim world we should know that the majority of the German people do not support this it is an individuale case.
