GRONAU - A 52-year-old drunk driver from Enschede charged with killing a 16-year-old girl in the German town of Gronau last Friday may drive in the Netherlands unimpeded.

Despite the fact that his driving license was confiscated in Germany, pending the court case, he is not barred from driving in the rest of Europe. A traffic officer for the public prosecution department in Almelo said this on Thursday.

The man is suspected of culpable homicide and must appear in court in Germany. If he is caught driving in the Netherlands however the only penalty would be a fine for not carrying his license.
