The former financial director for the Greek branch of German industrial giant Siemens is the subject of an international arrest warrant after failing to appear before a judge last week.

Athens -- Greece has issued arrest warrants for alleged money laundering against the wife and three daughters of a former Siemens executive wanted for suspected corruption, a court source said Tuesday.

One of the executive's daughters, 22-year-old Alexia Karavellas, was arrested on Monday night in Athens when she exited a taxi in front of her home and was to appear before a judge later Tuesday, according to the source.

The family's lawyer, Iannis Markoulakos, told reporters he believed the judge in the case was seeking to blackmail the former Siemens executive, Christos Karavellas, by issuing the warrants for his wife and three daughters.

Karavellas, former financial director for the Greek branch of German industrial giant Siemens, is the subject of an international arrest warrant after failing to appear before a judge last week.

Two other suspects in the case, former Siemens executive Ilias Georgiou and a former general manager at Greek state telephone operator OTE, George Skarpelis, were arrested on Friday.

An arrest warrant was also issued on May 20 for the group's former Greek operations director Michalis Christoforakos, who is believed to be in Munich.

Siemens officials are accused of bribing local politicians and senior OTE officials to bag a multi-million-dollar contract before the Athens Olympic Games in 2004.

The paybacks scandal rocked Greece for months and both the ruling party of Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis and the main opposition PASOK socialists are accused of taking bribes.
