The French current account deficit widened in December as industrial production declined in the eurozone's second biggest economy, official data released on Friday showed.

The Bank of France said that the current account deficit, a broad measure of payment exchanges with other countries, worsened to 3.0 billion euros ($4.0 billion), from 2.1 billion in November.

The central bank attributed the decline mainly to poor results in the goods sector.

Meanwhile, data from the national statistics office showed that industrial output contracted by 1.4 percent in December, wiping out an increase of 1.1 percent in November.
