12/06/2006Basques suspected of attacking French eatery

BAYONNE, Franmce, June 11, 2006 (AFP) - Three small explosive devices went off outside a hotel-restaurant belonging to top chef Alain Ducasse in the French Basque country early Sunday, but there was no significant damage, police said.

Some 50 guests staying at the Ostape inn in the town of Bidarray were taken to alternative accommodation while experts searched the premises.

During its construction in 2003 and 2004, the inn was twice before the target of home-made bombs, presumed to have been planted by members of the small French Basque independence movement.

A highly successful international entrepreneur, Ducasse is the only chef to have three restaurants — in Paris, Monaco and New York — garlanded with three Michelin stars.
