This is the first time in six years that unemployment in the Netherlands falls below 300,000.

THE NETHERLANDS -- For the first time since 2002, there are less than 300,000 unemployed people in the Netherlands, according to the Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis on Thursday.

In the period between July and August, 294,000 people or 3.8 percent of the labour force are unemployed.

In 2007, the figure was 4.4 percent.

In the past six months, unemployment has fallen by an average of 3,000 people per month. In the past year, the number of unemployed has fallen by 48,000.
