The association that represents Belgium's temping agencies Federgon says that 3% less people were employed by its members during last month than during August.

The fall in the number of temps employed is even greater when compared to September 2007, when over 8% more people were employed by employment agencies.

The number of people working for employment agencies in temporary posts had been growing.

However, this June a fall in the number of temps was recorded for the first time in many years.

This trend has continued with a 3% fall in the number of temps in September.

The number of blue-collar jobs has seen the sharpest fall.

Recent announcements on job cuts in the automotives sector will primarily affect employment agency staff.

This is certain to cause another fall in the number of temps during the coming months.
