Dutch health insurance companies say they have been cheated EUR 66 million in 2007, double the amount fraudulently claimed in 2006.

THE NETHERLANDS - Fraud investigations carried out by the Dutch health insurance companies show they were cheated out of EUR 66 million in 2007. That is almost double the amount fraudulently claimed in 2006.

One third of the fraud was committed by clients of the companies, while the remaining two thirds were committed by doctors, therapists and other care providers. Most of the claims were for treatments not delivered.

The insurance companies intend to continue their fraud investigation and next year will concentrate on GPs.
