Daughter of French-Colombian hostage voiced hope after the release of two high-profile captives

   PARIS, Januaru 11, 2008  - The daughter of French-Colombian hostage Ingrid
Betancourt voiced hope Thursday that the release of two high-profile captives
held by Colombian rebels could pave the way for her mother's own release.
   "I am deeply moved. This is a wonderful step towards bringing home all the
other hostages, including my mother," said Betancourt's daughter Melanie
Delloye. "It shows that when there is a will, progress is possible."
   Clara Rojas was managing Betancourt's presidential campaign when rebels of
the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) seized them both in February
2002. Consuelo Gonzalez was captured in 2001.
   "We are wholeheartedly delighted to hear of Clara and Consuelo's release,"
Betancourt's mother Yolanda Pulecio and her sister Astrid wrote in a joint
message issued in Paris.
   "We encourage the FARC to continue on the path of humanitarian releases"
and "ask the Colombian government to act primarily with concern for the life
and freedom of the hostages, and free from all other considerations," they
wrote.
