16/01/2012Iran violating arms embargo with shipments to Syria: France

Iran has repeatedly violated a UN arms embargo with exports to protest-hit Syria, the French foreign ministry said on Monday, citing a UN group of experts.

"The UN panel of experts on Iran has identified and informed the Security Council of several violations of the embargo on arms to or from Iran set up by... the United Nations Security Council," said spokesman Romain Nadal.

"These arms deliveries are illegal and deeply shocking because they benefit a regime that has chosen a kind of repression that the UN rights council has repeatedly said constitutes 'crimes against humanity'," he said.

"We condemn these violations and call on Iran and Syria to comply with Security Council resolutions," Nadal said in response to a question about a US accusation that Tehran was sending arms to Damascus.

Senior US officials told AFP on Friday that Iran was supplying munitions to aid Syria's bloody protest crackdown in an initiative spearheaded by the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps' elite Quds force, Qasem Soleimani.

Iran is forbidden to import or export weapons or ammunition under the terms of UN Security Council resolutions dating from 2007 and 2010 slapped on the Islamic republic because of its controversial nuclear programme.

Help me out. I'm not the best versed historian on this. Iran was Sadaam's (and the Baath's party) biggest enemy and has been fighting Baathist power for what? near two decades? Syria is run by the Baath party. For the life of me, I can't see why Iran would ship guns to support a Socialist, non-Islamist government that was so closely aligned with Iraq's Sadaam? What's wrong with this story? Am I missing something here? Are we being sold a bill of goods, more propoganda? Anyone?

SongHammer posted: 2012-01-16 20:09:48

Additional thoughts. My only explanation might be due to Syria's support of Hamas as a way to keep the Golan Heights on the table with Israel? So, Iran doesn't want to see the support for Hamas disappear? The enemy of my enemy is my friend? And yes, this all started when Iran, under the leadership of the democratically elected Mossadeq, nationalized Iran's oil and kicked out British Petroleum in 1951. The US saw an opening for cheap oil and sent in the CIA to instigate a coup and replace the democratically elected Mossadeq with our puppet and dictator, the Shah. With the Shah making Sadaam look like a choir boy (both of these guys were our puppets, of course) the only political voice left for the people of Iran was in the Mosques. Hence, the growth of Islamic Fundamentalism and the overthrow of the Shah. Sorry not enough time to write more - worthwhile link - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohammad_Mosaddegh

Always nice to meet another erudite student of history. The chronology is thus: Japan declared war on the US on December 7th. The US declared war on Japan on December 8th. Germany and Italy, in support of their Axis partner, both declared war on the US on December 11th. The US, in return and later on the same day, declared war on Germany and Italy. Thank you for your concern.

This comment goes to Mike W. who postedat 16:42:20. Your uninformed comment made my blood boil about the Dunkirk invasion you have misconstrued. My grandfather, James Gardner, was taken prisoner by the Germans and passed.away due to injuries of that invasion in 1998. He still had shrapnel imbedded where doctors thought to risky for surgery. He was a great man and I am honored to come from his lineage. You see, in his words without Operation Dynamo the British would have been slaughtered. This is why England's civilians grabbed every sea worthy boat to collect over 330,000 soldiers in about 9 days. Churchill even gave a speech afterwards stating the British would never surrender.
Brussels surrendered May 28th only giving the British one hour notice and would leave a considerate line for the Germans to plough through. However, the British commended them for their bravery while they had fought alongside each other even though they left the gap between the British and the sea.
The Dunkirk invasion is famous for "the solidarity of the British people in times of adversity". Over 300,000 were saved to fight another day. Otherwise they would have been anihilated, and for what? What would've happened to WWII without the British?
My grandfather was one of the most courageous men I've been honored to know, and then their are people like you so quick to judge, and so righteous when you have it all wrong. You owe my grandfather an apology, as well as all the French and Brussels he fought with. Shame on you for accusing people they don't know history and calling them names. It makes me wonder how courageous you would have been under the same circumstances. I hope my judgement is wrong.

Russia has been supplying weapons to Syria, you stupid scum, but you don't yap about that. You are so transparent in your evil, you filth. France and the UK pumped munitions into the Libya insurrection, in violation of the UN resolutions. You vile war-monger filth should be executed for crimes against humanity.

I'm all for prosecuting those you arm and support terrorists. So USA it's time to answer for all the terrorism you sponsor and have sponsored over the years. If you people want to judge Iran and Muslim nations you better take a good hard look at the CIA and who they have poured millions/billions into. Can you say OBL, Saddam, 1993 WTC attack? Anytime you see a drone bomb 1 terrorist, 3 children and 2 women that is TERRORISM. The US or any nation for that matter are not exempt.

Anyone?

Where the hell did you dig that bullshit up at? Germany never declared war on the U.S. You have that backwards.

@SHYSTER

Let's see. We had given England about fifty destroyers. We were sinking U-boats in the Atlantic. We were supplying England with war material. FDR made the speech about "if your neighbors house is on fire, do you not lend him a hose" Now my next statement is going to have people jumping out of their chairs in anger and disbelief , but FDR caused WWII.

Embargo? Under what authority? More BS from the jingo-nutjobs in Israel and their colony the US to try to justify their war.

Denver Bill,

And before that the US had been siding one side with arms, was fighting a proxy war with Japan in China ("Flying Tigers"), and placed an embargo on Japan.

Iran has every right to trade with whom ever it pleases. The worthless resolutions from the West are just methods of employing economic terror against Iran. Where are their nukes?? There are no nukes. The US was "deservingly" thrown out of Iran in 1979, and ever since has been marginalized by China, Japan, and the EU who have positive relations with Iran. Too bad Uncle Sam, no one cares about your criminal sanctions curtosy of AIPAC, and the Zionist entity.
