Critics say the line drawing, along with sketches of figures including Nelson Mandela and US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle, is unflattering.

London -- British Prime Minister Gordon Brown's wife Sarah says she was "bemused" by a sketch of her on French First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy's new website.

Critics say the line drawing, along with sketches of figures including Nelson Mandela and US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle, is unflattering. Others say it simply doesn't look much like her.

"Love Carla Bruni-Sarkozy's new website though bit bemused by illustration of me," Brown said in a Twitter posting about the website of the model-singer who married President Nicolas Sarkozy last year.

In a later posting -- which officials insist was responding to fellow Twitter users rather than advice from her husband or his office -- Brown adds: "Bemused in a good way -- I think it is really cool."

Most of the gallery of pictures -- which also features musicians including Bob Dylan, Bono and Bob Geldof -- are believed to have been drawn by French artist Alice Dechelette.

The Daily Telegraph newspaper said the drawing of Sarah Brown "bears scant resemblance to her".

"She seems to have lost most of her eyebrows and to be in urgent need of visits to a dentist and a hairdresser," it added.

On the site, which crashed on its launch Monday after being overwhelmed by visitors, 41-year-old Bruni-Sarkozy admits she sometimes feels locked in a beauty contest with Michelle Obama and other leading ladies.

The website aims to publicise Bruni's charity work as well as giving the world a glimpse of her life in the Elysee Palace with Sarkozy.
