Online local election voting aid goes live

Users answer 30 questions on their views of local political matters and the system produces a voting recommendation based on their answers.

Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Utrecht are among the places which have paid to have a ‘voting compass’ put together to reflect their situation.

According to Nos television, it costs around EUR 10,000 per council.

Questions in Amsterdam include the sale of social housing, legalised marijuana production and what car parking fees should be used for.

Expansion

Kieskompas was developed by Amsterdam’s VU university and has since expanded its operations into some 50 other countries.

Its main competitor is the Stemwijzer. This year a new free online voting guide De Stem Van has been launched.

The local elections take place on March 19.
