THE NETHERLANDS – The former grand mufti of Jerusalem, Ikrima Sabri, is still not welcome in The Netherlands.
Dutch Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen has made clear via the Dutch consulate in Ramallah that the mufti will be detained and deported immediately if he comes to The Netherlands.
The Palestinian Muslim cleric, who had been invited to a conference by a Turkish organisation in the Dutch town of Zaandam, is regarded as controversial because of his radical speeches against Israel.
In 2007, he was asked to come to Rotterdam, but declined the invitation. He had been told at the time that he would not be allowed to enter The Netherlands.
