More food firms, hotel group shift to one star factory farm pork

Pigs kept on a one star factory farm have 25 percent more room to move than no star pigs and more ‘toys’ to keep them entertained.

Wakker Dier described the move as a ‘small but important’ step.

Dutch supermarkets and many other food firms have already made the switch.

Now the hotel group NH and Johma will change to one-star meat in January 2015 and Subway at the end of next year.

Wakker Dier is now concentrating on sausage maker Kips and the Dr Oetker frozen pizza group which still use pigs from factory farms with no stars.
