By 2019, half the Dutch population will be over the age of 50

The over-50s already dominate in more than half of the Netherlands’ local authority areas, primarily in more rural areas north of Amsterdam and in the south.

Rozendaal near Arnhem and Laren, which is one of the country’s richest towns, leads the way in terms of population age.

More than 65 percent of their residents are over the age of 50.

Utrecht has the youngest population.

Only 30 percent of people living in the city are over the age of 50, the CBS said.

In 1950, two-thirds of the population of the Netherlands were under the age of 50.
