BSB is awarded the FairActive school award

To gain this award, BSB’s Fairtrade Group, mainly made up of Year 10 students, had to carry out a student audit and curriculum audit. The group also had to hold an assembly to raise awareness, create a detailed action plan and organise several events.

The group had a meeting with the Fairtrade representatives Rein Vermenlen and Riki Bouwers from the local municipality of Tervuren. Tervuren is a certified Fairtrade town. The group presented what the school has achieved so far and they discussed an event they would like to hold in the town, which would involve the whole local community.

The Fairtrade Group is now working towards the Fairtrade Foundation’s final award which is the FairAchiever award. To meet the goals of the final award BSB will be holding their first Fairtrade fortnight, 24 March – 3 April. A group of Year 10 students has helped to create a website with videos, quizzes and lesson plans. They also plan to hold various events, such as a bake sale and a photo competition for students from Years 6-8.
