02/12/2011Diversity drives Expatica Education Fair

Diversity drives Expatica Education Fair Nearly 30 exhibitors attended Expatica's first Education Fair, offering an array of school and university information spanning across MBA, online classes, language courses and primary schools.

Expatica's first Education Fair wrapped up in the early evening yesterday, with almost 30 exhibitors providing information to visitors attending the ZuidAS Bright City Café to learn more about international schools and education in the Netherlands.

There was a balanced blend of representatives from international schools, both primary and secondary, bilingual schools and Dutch public schools. Higher education exhibitors ranged from International Baccalaureate to online MBA offers and other graduate degrees within Holland.

Stands offering language courses and classes filled a second room for those thinking of plunging into learning Dutch. Different methods, as well as course structures, time schedules and costs showed just how individual language classes can cater to a diversity of needs.

Robert Westlake, the Head of a Dutch international primary school, praised the fair for bringing so much variety of the country's schooling to the forefront:

"The fair has been very useful; I met some amazing people, and I've met people I had only known from over the phone. I've discovered new ideas coming into schools; some are really the face of the future."

Adding depth to the information offered by stand holders was a schedule of short seminars with experts discussing relvant topics such as online MBAs, Dutch language courses, career coaching, branding and social media.

"It's all about trying to find out where you are or are not in your career," said MBA Recruitment Manager Lindsey Reid to an audience unsure of the right time to dive into an MBA programme. "Don't expect it to bring you everything you dream of; you're going to have to work pretty hard for what you want."

Speakers made the most of their talks, enhancing their time with informative videos, giveaways, music, and group discussions. Attendees appeared open and amused, offering advice to one another and soaking up the interactive atmosphere.

Over 1,000 visitor signup sheets were completed online, and although the turnout was below the expected number the event itself was a success in attendance, production and performance.
