20/06/2007Youth Welfare Board resigns

20 June 2007

HAARLEM - The board of directors at the Youth Welfare Agency Noord-Holland has resigned. The provincial executive had revoked its confidence in the leadership at the social service agency because it reportedly did not adequately follow up on recommendations it had been given after the tragic death of toddler Savanna.

Despite the involvement of the Youth Welfare Agency in Noord-Holland, Savanna was systematically abused by her mother and eventually died as a result of this abuse.

After this case came to light all youth welfare agencies were given new guidelines in order to prevent this from happening again. The youth welfare service in Noord-Holland failed to implement these guidelines properly.

The provincial executive wants the situation at the Youth Welfare Agency to be in order by the beginning of next year at the latest.
