20/12/2006Massive chain collision on A30

20 December 2006

AMSTERDAM — Six people were injured when 18 cars and two trucks collided in thick mist on the A30 motorway on Tuesday night.

Four of the injured victims were discharged after treatment, but two people were admitted to hospital with neck and internal injuries.

The accident took place at about 8.30pm on Tuesday near Lunteren in the province of Gelderland.

At the same time, an accident occurred on the other side of the motorway, the Traffic Information Service (VID) said.

That collision involved only a few vehicles and no injuries were reported.

All involved motorists (about 40 people) were given shelter and assistance in the nearby town of Barneveld.

The A30 was eventually re-opened on Wednesday morning.
