Sven Kramer has won the European Allround Speed Skating Championships in Budapest. It’s the fifth time he’s won the title.
The speed skating star from Friesland in the north of the Netherlands beat his closest rival in the competition, compatriot Jan Blokhuijsen, in the closing race in Budapest, the 10,000 metres.
Kramer needed to beat Blokhuijsen by just over a second in the 10,000 metres to win the allround title and did this with ease, clocking a time of 13.45,05. Blokhuijsen came in second with 13.52,48 – his performance also won him second place in the overall competition.
