AMSTERDAM â Dutch police have arrested a 32-year-old Iraqi man at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport. He is wanted in Germany on suspicion of terrorist activities.
The man was arrested as he tried to board a flight to Turkey and is suspected of having links to the radical Islamic movement Ansar al-Islam, a militant group with alleged ties to Al Qaeda.
About 100 members of the movement are allegedly living in Germany, mainly in the southern state of Beieren, a Radio Netherlands report said on Monday.
German authorities said the man was arrested in expectation of his extradition.
The Netherlands last arrested an Ansar al-Islam suspect when it detained the group's alleged leader, Kurd Mullah Krekar at Schiphol in September 2002.
Jordan requested his extradition, officially on charges he was involve in the heroin trade, but the Dutch deported him to Norway, where he held refugee status. Attempts to prosecute him in Norway were also aborted.
