AMSTERDAM – Outgoing Minister Karla Peijs (Transport) will give the go ahead on Tuesday for the construction of the 50-kilometre long rail line between Lelystad and Zwolle.
The Hanze line, which will cost more than 900 million euro, will be the first entirely new passenger rail line since the completion of the Flevo line at the end of the 1980s, not including the high speed HSL-Zuid line connecting Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris.
Construction will begin near Kampen. Two new stations will be built, in Dronten and Kampen. The expected travel time between Lelystad and Zwolle will be 30 minutes.
De Hanze line should provide a faster connection between the Randstad area and the north, and lighten the burden on the Gooi line (Amsterdam-Hilversum-Amersfoort) and the Veluwe line (Amersfoort-Zwolle).
Rail network manager ProRail says the first trains will use the new line in 2012.
