CANNES, France, May 22, 2007 (AFP) - A biting animation about a young girl's life under Iran's ayatollahs and a thoughtful movie about faith and death amid a Mennonite community in Mexico shared the Cannes festival's third prize, the Jury Prize on Sunday.
"Persepolis", a black-and-white animated feature by Marjane Satrapi, is based on her best-selling eponymous comic-book series.
"Even if this is a universal film, I want to dedicate this prize to all Iranians," Satrapi told AFP this week.
"Stellet Licht" by Mexico's Carlos Reygadas is set amid one of the conservative Protestant group's farming communities in Mexico.
It recounts the torment of a man torn between his wife and a secret love, looking at faith and the family.
