THE HAGUE – A 6-year-old boy drowned in the canoe pond in the Zuiderpark in The Hague on Tuesday afternoon. The child was missing for about 90 minutes. He had last been seen on the wooden steps near the pond.

Divers of the fire brigade found him in the water 15 metres from the spot. A spokesperson for the fire brigade says the boy died on the scene.

The child's brother and sister, who had also been playing near the pond, immediately called police when they noticed their brother was no longer in sight. The boy's parents were not in the vicinity of the pond.
