THE NETHERLANDS - A survey conducted by Radio Netherlands Worldwide among 1,200 Dutch people living abroad shows that 55 percent of them find the Dutch to be impolite compared to other nationalities.

Sixty-five percent say that the Dutch people back home have become ruder since they left the Netherlands.

A similar survey conducted among expatriates living in the Netherlands was carried out by Expatica in collaboration with market research agency, NetPanel.

About 300 expatriates filled in a questionnaire – and 1 percent found the Dutch impolite compared to other nationalities. The longer the expatriates live in the Netherlands, the more rude they find the Dutch.

Fifty-one percent found it impolite when Dutch people answer them in English when they are trying to speak Dutch.

Hi, The Dutch may need reminding that if the English , with a few others , lost in 1945 they would all be German.PS, my father fought in Arnhem

@ Sam Ward:
What's that got to do with anything?!?
So your dad fought in Arnhem. My grandfathers were both in the Wehrmacht. Big deal. Where do you see the connection between your comment and the Dutch being viewed as impolite today?
The WW2 Allies' children and grandchildren need reminding that todays issues are what counts. Be a little less proud of what someone else did. Do good things yourself, instead.

We lived in Schaesberg in 1960-62(RAF). We have returned regularly in the following 46 years; and without exception have found all Dutch nationals to be courteous, friendly

@ V Heider.
Who needs a survey with comments like these? Rude is an understatement. And maybe the present will be all that counts, but her better hope that Sam Ward family is not called up to protect his/her family.....
