05/02/2008KPN scraps more jobs

Telecom company KPN is scrapping another 2,000 jobs by 2010.

5 February 2008

AMSTERDAM – Telecom company KPN is scrapping another 2,000 jobs by 2010. This is on top of the 8,000 job cuts announced in 2005. It means that more than half of the 18,000 jobs at the company will have disappeared in the space of five years.

KPN announced the extra cuts at the presentation of its fourth quarter figures for last year. The company booked a net profit of EUR 1.58 billion, almost four times as much as in the last quarter of 2006.

The job cuts are expected to safeguard profit in the long term and are part of the transition into a broad media company. KPN also wants to reduce the number of external employees by 1,300 as part of this transition.
