As many as 1 million passengers may turn to neighbouring airports instead of using Schiphol airport, predicts KLM.

THE NETHERLANDS - KLM says the environmental tax which all passengers departing from Amsterdam's Schiphol airport must pay since 1 July will cost the airline between 500,000 and 1 million passengers in 2008.

The airline says the number of cancellations is alarming. Its daughter company Transavia has been particularly hard hit.
