The security at Schiphol is once again being stepped up after the undercover report in which a journalist was able to smuggle a fake bomb onto an aircraft.

12 February 2008

THE HAGUE – The security at Schiphol is once again being stepped up after the undercover report in which a journalist was able to smuggle a fake bomb onto an aircraft.

Within a few days all employees who enter the secure area at the airport will be physically checked. Their baggage will also be subjected to 100-percent checks.

Justice Minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin announced the extra measures in a letter to Parliament on Tuesday. In the letter he also writes that three staff entrances will be closed immediately so as to increase security. More checks will also be started for employees leaving the airport.

It was announced earlier that Schiphol would temporarily be having personnel checked by two security workers pending the use of iris scans at all entrances.
