02/09/2008Dutch prosecutor seeks longer terrorist sentences

The Public Prosecutor's Office is appealing for longer prison sentences for five convicted terrorists including Samir Azzouz.

THE HAGUE -- The Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an appeal seeking longer prison sentences for five convicted terrorists, including Samir Azzouz.

The five were convicted of belonging to a terrorist group, and planning to attack a number of politicians and the secret service headquarters near The Hague.

Samir Azzouz was sentenced to eight years in prison. Three others were given up to four years in jail, while the fifth suspect was acquitted.

The public prosecutor is now demanding prison sentences of up to 15 years.
