The irony of the joint Calvinist-Muslim protest about the yet unseen Wilders film is precisely that: the film is yet to be seen and therefore does not yet merit criticism. Yet it is the glut of pre-publicity about the film that has provoked such pre-criticism. Surely, the Dutch 4th estate has more challenging issues to tackle. Otherwise, this entire circus will only underscore the current and dangerous paucity of ideas and ideals in the very region where Europe's Age of Enlightenment commenced or reached a peak.
Now Geert Wilders will have to make also the anti-Calvinist film. Way to go. And because there is a Bible belt in The Netherlands, and that means plenty of material, he might become most famous Dutch film maker. Of course, only if he doesn't meet his maker too soon like Theo van Gogh.
