25/06/2008Amsterdam's prostitutes to be supervised

The supervisors will help to improve working conditions of prostitutes working in the capital.

25 June 2008

AMSTERDAM - Amsterdam is to deploy supervisors with the aim of improving the position of prostitutes working in the capital.

The move aims to increase checks on prostitutes' work places, to prevent abuses and to improve their working conditions. The number of refuges for victims of people trafficking will also be increased.

Amsterdam City Council says every kind of coercion should be eliminated from the prostitution sector. The council is working with interest groups, the police and the tax and medical authorities to implement the measure.
