Amsterdam Metro still not back to normal Derailment on Monday afternoon saw hundreds of passengers trapped in the trains.

8 April 2008

AMSTERDAM - Metro services in the Dutch capital Amsterdam have still not returned to normal following a derailment late on Monday afternoon. Hundreds of passengers were in the train at the time, though no-one was injured.

As the power had to be turned off, the passengers were trapped in the carriages for about an hour.  An organisation representing Dutch public transport users says it took far too long to get the passengers out.

Services have been restored in some parts of the capital but some lines are still not running to Amsterdam's central train station. The cause of the accident is not clear yet.
