05/12/2008Swiss shops block homophobic US rapper

Some music retailers in Switzerland will not be selling Trick Trick’s latest albums because of its homophobic lyrics.

GENEVA – Several Swiss music retailers said Thursday they would not stock the latest album by US rapper Trick Trick because of its homophobic lyrics, local news agency ATS reported.

Gay rights organisation Pink Cross said it wrote to a number of shops urging them not to sell the album "The Villain" because of its anti-gay content and that chains such as Media Markt, Fnac and City Disc have all agreed to keep it off their shelves.

Trick Trick - a Detroit rapper and associate of Eminem whose real name is Christian Mathis - has made no secret of his homophobic views and recently told a hip-hop website that he did not want gay people to buy his album.

"I'm a go on the record right now with this. Homosexuals are probably not gonna like this album," he told the website allhiphop.com.

"I don't want your faggot money any goddamn way. I don't like it (homosexuality). Carry that shit somewhere else."

Moel Volken, secretary general of Pink Cross, told ATS: "It's clear there is a problem of homophobia in the hip hop and reggae scenes."
