Suspect says he sold Natalee Holloway Joran van der Sloot retracts his story and now says he sold Holloway for USD 10,000.

25 November 2008

AMSTERDAM - Joran van der Sloot, the main suspect in the disappearance of the American teenager Natalee Holloway, retracts his story. He now says that in 2005 he sold Holloway for USD 10,000 (EUR 7,800) to a man who approached him in a casino in Aruba looking for a blond girl.

In an interview with the US television station Fox News, Van der Sloot says he brought Holloway, who was drunk, to the beach where she was taken by boat to Venezuela. After the interview, Van der Sloot called Fox News and said he invented the story.

Earlier in November, Van der Sloot was secretly filmed in Bangkok offering to recruit Thai girls to work in the sex industry in Europe. He was filmed by an assistant of Dutch crime reporter Peter R de Vries.

In September, the reporter received an Emmy Award for his film concerning the disappearance of Holloway.

During ten conversations filmed with hidden cameras, Van der Sloot confessed to disposing Holloway's body. He later retracted his confession.
