20/07/2009Dutch couple feared dead in Jakarta bombings

An elderly couple who have gone missing since Friday’s bomb attacks are suspected to be among the nine people killed in the blast.

The Netherlands – The National Police Services Agency says it is investigating if a Dutch couple were among the nine people killed in Friday’s bomb attacks at two luxury hotels in the Indonesian capital Jakarta.

The elderly couple from Badhoevedorp have been missing since the explosions. They were in Indonesia for charity work. Unconfirmed reports said they were staying at the Ritz Carlton, one of the hotels hit by the bombers.

On Friday, two suspected suicide bombers set off the blasts which tore through the Ritz-Carlton and nearby JW Marriott hotels, leaving nine dead and more than 40 injured.

Three Dutch citizens were among those injured in the Marriott blast. Two of them were seriously injured; one has been transferred to Singapore for treatment while the other remained in Jakarta because his injuries prevent him from being moved.
