Chilean President Michelle Bachelet also placed a wreath at the WWII on Dam Square and addressed fellow Chileans living in the Netherlands in the Beurs van Berlage.

Amsterdam – On the second of a three-day state tour to the Netherlands, Chilean President Michelle Bachelet visited the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam.

The museum is dedicated to a Jewish teenager, Anne Frank, who hid from Nazi persecution with her family for over two years before she was betrayed and sent to a concentration camp.

In the Anne Frank House’s guestbook, the president wrote: 'Anne Frank's history represents not only a terrible period for humanity when horror and discrimination prevailed, but also warns us to do every day whatever we can to assure freedom and respect for diversity, gender, religion, political, social, sexual orientation, in order to honour the value of peace, human rights and love and respect for human being. Her story must never be forgotten and tells us to continue struggling for human rights.

President Bachelet also placed a wreath at the WWII memorial on the capital's famous Dam Square.

She also addressed fellow Chileans living in the Netherlands in Amsterdam's stock exchange building, the Beurs van Berlage.

After a brief meeting with Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende in The Hague, the Chilean leader went to Rotterdam where she highlighted the economic ties between Chile and the Netherlands. She visited a Rotterdam fruit trading company and gave a presentation at a seminar on doing business with Chile.

On Wednesday, Bachelet will visit Wageningen University, a leading European life sciences instituition which focuses on food production and security.

On the first day of her visit on Monday, Bachelet's visited the royal palace in The Hague for a meeting with Queen Beatrix, followed by talks with the leaders of the two houses of parliament and a gala dinner.

Bachelet is in the country on the invitation of Queen Beatrix, who went on an official trip to Chile in 2003. She will leave the Netherlands Wednesday afternoon for a visit to France until Saturday.
