THE NETHERLANDS -- One in five bar owners are not observing the ban on smoking, says Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (VWA).
The VWA is responsible for carrying out checks ensuring the ban is being observed.
In the first two months after the new rules came into force, 17 percent of bar owners were found to be in breach of them. However, nearly all the restaurants, hotels and fast food outlets visited by inspectors were observing the ban.
The VWA has now decided to make checks on bars a priority.
