Schiphol: the world’s third favourite airport

15 April 2004

AMSTERDAM — Schiphol has been voted the third-best airport in the world, it was announced Thursday.

Amsterdam’s airport jumped from seventh place to finish behind Hong Kong and Singapore in a poll organised by aviation consultancy Skytrax.

Skytrax polled 4.8 million airline passengers from 86 countries over a 10-month period to March this year for its global barometer of passenger opinions. Respondents in the online survey were asked to assess the usability and comfort of airlines.

Schiphol was in the top five a few years ago but had more recently slipped down the rankings.

The other four top spots went to Asian airports.

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) continued its dominance in the poll, taking first place for the fourth consecutive year. It faced stiff competition from Singapore Changi, which led the poll for four months. The final result was one of the closest for years, Skytrax said.

Seoul Incheon Airport and Kuala Lumpur KLIA Airport came in fourth and fifth place respectively.

Schiphol also topped the ranking of European airports, followed by Copenhagen and Munich.
