Dutch consumer confidence drops

30 July 2008

THE NETHERLANDS – Dutch consumers appear to have lost faith in the economy. The indicator used by Statistics Netherlands to measure consumer confidence dropped from -19 to -31, which means that pessimists now outnumber optimists by 31 percent. The drop is the second largest ever recorded.

Statistics Netherlands says consumers have not just become more pessimistic about the economy in general, but also about their own financial situation. The past month also showed a substantial decrease in consumer willingness to make major purchases.
