The 24-year-old activist was released after investigation found no proof for claims that he was planning to attack Queen Beatrix.

The Hague – The vegan streaker arrested for allegedly planning an attack on Queen Beatrix has been freed, the Netherlands prosecution service said on Saturday.

"The investigation has found no proof for the allegation," said a statement.

"There is no reason for his further detention."

Peter Janssen, a Dutch animal rights activist, was arrested last Monday after police received a top that he was planning an attack on the queen because she sometimes wears fur coats.

However, his lawyer Gerard Sprong pointed out that the tip had been sent by the 24-year-old activist’s former girlfriend, reports de Volkskrant.

The 19-year-old girl and Janssen were previously arrested on suspicion of freeing 2,500 minks from a farm in the south-west of the country.

In June, a district court in the western port city of Rotterdam lifted Janssen's detention pending trial for freeing 2,500 minks on account that he had to look after his sick mother.

Janssen has denied allegation that he possesses a firearm.

In 2008, Janssen was dubbed the vegan streaker after he disrupted a popular live Saturday night television show, clad only in his underpants, in a bid to publicise animal rights.

He also streaked at the ABN Amro tennis tournament, a Champions Trophy hockey match and the Tilburg Ten Mile road race.
