BERN / BASEL - Police used rubber bullets to restore order after football fans clashed in Bern and Basel in Switzerland following two Super League games Friday night.
A number of fans and a police officer were hurt in clashes in Bern, according to a police statement where trouble erupted after Young Boys lost 3-1 to visitors Xamax Neuchatel.
Sixteen people were hurt in violence during and after the FC Basel -FC Zurich game. Basel beat their opponents 4-0 at their home ground of St Jakob Park, where Switzerland is due to meet the Czech Republic when Euro 2008 kicks off on 7 June.
Three people including a police officer needed hospital treatment after missiles were thrown. Police said 12 people were arrested.
