Top Spanish bullfighter Jose Pedro Prados, better known as "El Fundi" fractured his skull when he was knocked by a bull, say doctors.

Madrid - Top Spanish bullfighter Jose Pedro Prados, better known as "El Fundi", who was knocked unconscious by a bull on Saturday, has fractured his skull, doctors treating him said Sunday.

They detected a small fracture on the left side of the 42-year-old matador's head, local media reported.

"El Fundi" was thrown into the air and fell unconscious on the sand, bleeding from the left ear, after being charged by the bull in the arena in San Sebastian, in Spain's northern Basque country.

The medical centre, where he is under observation in intensive care, said it would not issue another statement before Monday.

"El Fundi" sustained head injuries in May when he fell from a horse in Toledo, central Spain. He was also badly injured when he returned to the ring on June 14 and needed to convalesce for a month.

A top bill at bullfighting fiestas, "El Fundi" made his debut in 1981 at the age of 14.
