MADRID — Spanish police have broken up an international gang which used fake credit cards in Spain, Britain, Ireland and Romania.

Thirty arrests were made in Spain alone in what is thought to be a million euro fraud.

In some case the gang bribed business people or employees to pass the transactions with the false credit cards.

Arrests were made in Burgos, León, Coruña, Madrid, Barcelona and Asturias.

Those detained were from a number of different countries.

Police detained mostly Romanians, as well Spaniards and Brazilians.

The operation, initiated by the Guardia Civil, investigated the cloning of credit cards in Spain and in France and Italy.

The gang operated from a house in Burgos in northern Spain and police were able to trace the distribution of the fake credit cards around Spain, to Britain, Ireland and Romania.
