24/04/2007El Bulli is world's best restaurant for third time

24 April 2007

BARCELONA -El Bulli, the restaurant made famous for its surrealist dishes and the difficulty of getting a place there, has been voted the world's best restaurant again.

Owned by Spanish cook Ferran Adrià, it won the prestigious title awarded by Restaurant magazine for the third time.

El Bulli, in Rosas, near Barcelona, won the majority of votes from 651 judges.

It has not dipped below third place in the past six years in the respected competition by the gastronomes' bible.

It also won first place in 2001 and 2006.

Other Spanish restaurants which made top place included Mugaritz, in the Basque Country, which reached seventh position.

Arzak in the Basque Country and El Celler de Can Roca, in Catalonia, won the 10th and 11th position.

Also, Can Fabes, de Sant Celoni, near Barcelona, won 22nd place and Martin Berasategui, in the Basque Country won 27th place.

Spain is in fourth place, along with Italy, for the number of the world's best restaurants.

France has 12, the US, ten and the UK, seven.
