MADRID — Attention was distracted from the clothes at Madrid Fashion Week to the ongoing row over the new weight restrictions introduced.
Madrid city council and the organisers of Pasarela Cibeles, which started on Monday, have said models must have a minimum Body Mass Index (BMI) of 18.
Five models were said to have been barred from the event, reported the Spanish daily El Pais on Tuesday.
The paper also added that some models and designers described the measure as 'offensive'.
They also claimed it was introduced with electoral concerns in mind on the part of the council which is run by the opposition conservative Popular Party.
