High Court Judge Santiago Pedraz remanded in custody two suspected ETA members on Tuesday a bomb attack at Madrid's Barajas Airport in 2006.

23 January 2008

MADRID - High Court Judge Santiago Pedraz remanded in custody two suspected ETA members on Tuesday for killing two people in a bomb attack at Madrid's Barajas Airport on 31 December 2006.

Igor Portu and Martín Sarasola, who were arrested earlier this month in the Basque town of Mondragón, will be held without bail until trial amid concerns that they may attempt to flee the country if released. They face charges of murder and belonging to a terrorist group and could face more than 80 years in prison.

According to investigators, Sarasola drove the truck bomb into the parking structure at the airport before leaving the scene wearing a wig and mask to hide his identity. Portu allegedly made phone calls to emergency services warning of the bomb's location.
