A widely distributed video clip shows two policemen taking a nap in their police car while on duty.

MADRID – Two police officers who were caught on tape sleeping in their patrol car while on duty have been suspended for two weeks without pay, Spanish media reported Sunday.

In a widely distributed video clip filmed with a mobile phone by an anonymous passerby, the two officers can be seen fast asleep in the car in the eastern city of Villanueva de la Serena in November 2008.

So deep was their slumber that the two policemen did not wake up even when a flashlight was beamed into the patrol car.

"They committed a mistake and they are going to pay with a penalty," the city's mayor Miguel Angel Gallardo told El Pais newspaper.
