18/08/2005Nudists win more beach at Bredene

18 August 2005

BRUSSELS —  The nude beach in Bredene will be expanded in 2006 due to rising popularity, Mayor Willy Vanhooren said on Thursday.

The mayor said he wants to completely refurbish beach post six where the naturist beach is located.

The nudist beach was opened four years ago and is currently 450m long, newspaper 'Het Laatste Nieuws' reported.

It borders the De Haan municipality, but will be extended by another 200m in the direction of Oostende because De Haan is opposed to having a naturist beach in its jurisdiction.

"The nude beach is increasingly successful and the neighbourhood behind it is being populated by more people. On good days, the nude beach is too full," Van Hooren said.

For those people who don’t want to go naked; the normal beach will be moved further along and expanded. A breakwater and guarded beach will be developed.
