Queen Fabiola had 5 miscarriages A private conversation captured on tape reveals secrets of the late king’s wife.

23 April 2008

BELGIUM - At a dinner party for the Hungarian president, Queen Fabiola told a guest that she had had five miscarriages.

The conversation was filmed by a camera team of the commercial broadcaster VTM.

It was a public secret that Fabiola, the wife of the late King Boudewijn, had suffered several miscarriages. She never spoke about it in public.

During the dinner party she was speaking with a guest about Princess Mathilde, who gave birth to a fourth child last week.

Then she spoke about herself. She said that she had had five miscarriages but that it had not made her bitter.

Fabiola and the late King Boudewijn remained childless. When King Boudewijn died, his brother Albert became king
